Since 2011, in fact, I’ve been touring the country and leading training sessions, workshops, master classes, seminars and in-home consultations with families. This work is my passion.
Helping families understand the complexities of care and empowering facilities with new tools and techniques to fully care for patients with dementia is a personal mission of mine. My father was diagnosed with dementia early on in his retirement, and my mother, his caregiver, is no longer with us. I understand the challenges of this disease so I’ve made it my life’s work to educate others so they can become “dementia aware.”
My approach is a nationally recognized family and professional caregiver training program. It is designed to improve the quality of life and increase enjoyment for people living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia within the assisted living/memory care or skilled nursing setting. My clients learn how to customize care based on the needs of the patient first. Customized dementia care training programs create a dementia-aware environment, and just as importantly, help build a strong bond between the caregiver and the patient.

My goal is to raise organizational awareness for the long term. My year-long program has successfully guided assisted living/memory care communities and other facilities. Time and again, I get feedback from facilities because of what we were able to accomplish. My specialized training sets organizations apart from the rest because they become the dementia expert in the market. In addition, these facilities are able to pass dementia care awareness to the families. It truly is a community approach, which is essential to proper dementia care.

The reality is that the primary caregiver is 68 percent more likely to die before the patient does. This illustrates the disease’s dire implications for both the patient and caregiver alike.
